All businesses need to identify their target customers in order to able to market their products to that target. It a well known fact that businesses that aren’t marketing specifically toward their target customers then they are blowing money. It is very crucial to understand your targeted customers and what they are looking for. Sometimes identifying your target customers is just common sense. For instance, if you are selling video games then you would most likely be targeting younger children and teens. Researching your target provides a more in depth understanding of your targeted customers.

There are two types of groups to target other businesses and individual consumers. Targeting individuals is much harder because everybody has their own opinions, wants, needs and this things change regularly with time. Their budget and age significantly influence their buying habits. Businesses are easier to target because they often have a much larger budget. You shouldn’t specifically target one group of the other you should target both equally.

One easy and free way to identify your targeted customers is to put up surveys on your website for you visitors to take. Asking the right questions is important for understanding your visitors. Asking for age, budget, interests and location is extremely helpful. This allows you understand who is buying from you, how old they are, what their yearly budget is and their location. You should also ask if they are an individual or if they are with a company. If your visitors are mostly individuals this lets you know so. Then you can do what you must to attract more businesses. By using surveys you can easily decide what type of people you should be targeting. This will also allow you to target a specific location of people as well as people with a specific budget. Surveys are free and very effective.

When targeting a specific market don’t worry about trying to target everyone. Not everyone will be interested in what you have to say or what you have to sell. Perhaps with time you will begin attracting more people with different interests but when starting out select an audience that wants what you sell. This is one of the most important aspects of successful marketing. If you are generating a lot of business from other businesses you will want to know what types of businesses are attracted to your products or services. For instance, if you are selling shopping cart software then you will want to target businesses that have an interest in ecommerce.
